Federal Judge Orders Petition Names Released

In what is one of the final issues remaining from the Referendum 71 battle of 2009, US district judge Benjamin Settle has ruled that public disclosure laws apply and that the names of those who signed the referendum petition must be released as a matter of public record.

For $15 a DVD containing the names of those who signed R-71 petitions can be obtained by contacting the State Archives at (360) 586-1492 or research@sos.wa.gov, as detailed at http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2011/10/17/make-public-anti-gay-petitions-federal-judge

Support Queer Youth, 5pm 11 October 2010

October 11 is National Coming Out Day and this will be observed with a sign-waving visibility event put together by local queer youth, to take place on the Evergreen Boulevard overpass across Interstate 5, just south and east of The Academy at 400 East Evergreen, Vancouver WA 98660.

Older allies are encouraged to show up in support of queer youth, including the Triple Point youth group associated with Children's Home Society of Washington and Clark College's student group Queer Penguins and Allies. Various other representatives from area high school groups such as gay straight alliances may also be present.

Please dress for the weather and plan to be out for an hour or so. Rory Bowman of the local ACLU shall be at Java House at 4:30 if folks would care for a cup of coffee beforehand. For further information, please contact Spring Dowse at the Children's Home Society of Washington, (360) 693-1325.
